‘Birds of Prey’ Review: Harley steals the spotlight

Birds of Prey Positive Review

‘Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn’ is quite the mouthful. Should they have just gone with calling it ‘Harley Quinn’? Probably. Does it make the movie any worse for it? Absolutely not. The tongue-in-cheek title is the first clue that this movie isn’t going to be taking itself too seriously. Told from the perspective of the deranged Harley Quinn, it’s full of nudge-nudge, wink-wink moments, over the top action, every colour of the rainbow and a shit ton of action. And I loved it.   *Note: This review is going to contain […]

About that time I got Spider-Man to sign a bag of Uncle Ben’s rice…

Andrew Garfield The Amazing Spider-Man Premiere Uncle Ben's Rice

It was six years ago. The day before ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ premiere in London, which me and my best friend were due to attend. We were sat sinking in a few beers in central London, when I suddenly piped up with: “how funny would it be if I gave Andrew Garfield a bag of Uncle Ben’s to sign?” Maybe it was the beer talking. Maybe it was the lack of sleep I was experiencing due to the relentless pursuit of a studying for a degree. Wherever the idea came from, it was a stroke […]

Why Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor

Matt Smith 11th Doctor favourite best doctor 11 TARDIS season 5 matt smith appreciation 11

All good things must come to an end, I guess. In a show like ‘Doctor Who’ the cast, tone, actors and settings change at the drop of a hat, trawling through different show-runners and lead actors like there’s no tomorrow. It’s unique in this way – no other show does anything like it, but sometimes I can’t help but get a little nostalgic for times long since passed. As I’m watching season 12 of ‘Doctor Who’ unfold currently, I can’t help but miss some of the old faces that once graced our screens. And, for […]

Hercules: My Live-Action Dream Cast

Hercules Dream Cast Hercules remake hercules live action 2020 disney ariana grande mila kunis oprah muses disney+

I know, I know, another post about a dream cast for Disney’s live-action movie ‘Hercules’. But I’ve been planning this one for a while, okay? I even have the receipts to prove it. My best friend and I planned this in August ’19, before it was cool. For those of you that don’t know, rumours swirling around the internet suggest that Disney are looking to remake their 1997 classic movie ‘Hercules’, following the slew of ‘Cinderella’, ‘Dumbo’, ‘Aladdin’… okay, imma stop right there, because Disney seem to be remaking everything. I’m actually excited for this one, though! ‘Hercules’ is the […]

‘Star Wars’ is an iconic part of any geek’s life. From the hum of the lightsaber to the sound of a blaster firing, each and every part of ‘Star Wars’ has impacted three generations of movie-goers – despite how you may feel about its latest release. If you’re anything like me, you love a little bit of trivia. Y’know, the little tidbits of information about our favourite films that trickle out after release, adding a little depth and humanity to the movies. ‘Star Wars’ is an interesting trivia hole to delve down, as George Lucas […]

‘The Magicians’ is one of the best fantasy shows ever made. Here’s why…

The Magicians TV Show SyFy review think piece any good anaylsis margo high king magicians season 5

If you like the fantasy genre, you’ll like ‘The Magicians’. If you love subverted tropes, strong female characters and an ironic take on the concept of ‘whimsy’, you’ll love ‘The Magicians’. The TV show, based on the first book of the same name, has been described as being a ‘Harry Potter’ – but for adults, booze-guzzling, cynical adults. In my view, it is that, yes, but so much more… Disclaimer: I read the book trilogy about two years ago and devoured them. It’s rare that I get engulfed in a book so quickly, but there […]

‘The Rise of Skywaker’ is full of flaws – but I don’t give a damn

star wars the rise of skywalker review pro rise of skywalker star wars tros daisy ridley kylo ren

There we have it! After nine core films, two spin-offs and over forty years in the making, ‘Star Wars’, as we know it, has come to an end. The internet as a whole has been widely divisive on this new trilogy, and not without merit. The trio – even including ‘The Force Awakens’ has been littered with issues, ranging from pacing to plot. But, honestly? I don’t give a damn.   ***There’s gonna be some big ol’ spoilers ahead for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ – so if you haven’t seen it yet, look away now*** […]

‘Frozen 2’ is a glorious, magical adventure (Movie Review)

frozen 2 movie review elsa girlfriend anna frozen 2 spoilers frozen 2 elsa died dead dies frozen 2 thoughts movie

Going into ‘Frozen 2’, I was a little skeptical. The original was decent (‘Tangled’ was better, fight me), and the characters of the first were truly magical. Obviously after its crazy success Disney were going to make a sequel. But was it going to be another heartless cash grab? *There’s going to be massive ‘Frozen 2’ spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet – what are you doing?! Go to the cinema, watch the flick, and come back right here*   In short, the movie isn’t a cash grab. Not at all. […]

Maleficent becomes the Mistress of Mediocrity as Disney’s sequel magic wears thin

Before we begin, I just wanna say that I LOVE Sleeping Beauty. Like, to the point that I know it word for word and it’s my favourite Disney movie of all time. There’s just something about the art style, the dynamic villain and the whimsical setting that resonates with me. So, when I saw the original Maleficent back in 2014, I was horrendously disappointed. Why did they do my horned villainess dirty like that?! With that said, my review of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is probably going to be a little bit skewed – you’ve […]

Little details you might have missed in ‘Joker’

joker 2019 details in joker 2019 easter eggs joker joker movie trivia

We’re all in agreement that ‘Joker’ is amazing, right? Right? (I’ll take the resounding silence as a yes). It’s a brilliant character piece that deals with mental health and societal issues that gives us a view on Gotham that we’ve never had before. It’s both parts dramatic and nuanced, brutal and subtle all at once. As I wrote in my review, ‘Joker’ is more than a standard comic book villain back story – it’s a piece of cinematic art. That’s why it’s worth giving it another watch – it’s filled with so many subtle details […]
