Secret Santa – Let’s Get Festive!

Merry Christmas one and all! I hope your days have been filled with geeky shenanigans, lots of festive goodies and time spent with your loved ones. ‘Tis the season, after all!

My good pal internet palaroni – Ellen ‘Lightning’ – organised a wonderful festive affair for us geeky bloggers… a Secret Santa event! We all stick our names into the digital Santa hat and draw out a blog to gush over – how could I turn that down?! So, without any further ado, let’s unwrap this gift… (I hope you’re imagining a drum roll, right now…)

I was lucky enough to receive The Parent Trope in my Secret Santa! Now, I hadn’t been aware of this particular blog before, so it was even more of a treat to unwrap!

The name itself is brilliant (I see what y’all did there), and it sets the tone for the entire blog. Brilliant articles, high quality images, and a sleek layout make for one sick ass blog. If you couldn’t tell from it’s title, it’s all about enjoying nerd culture while being a parent. While I can’t relate (single life forever!) it’s fab to see people’s geeky cultures through the eyes of another – and The Parent Trope does it brilliantly.

Just look at how pretty her site is!

Alli is a fab writer – who should definitely continue writing her novels! – who works as a software engineer. That’s pretty sick. She has a young son, Indy, who loves dinosaurs, and is married to the love of her life. Aww. This little geeky family unit is the premise of the blog – and it’s almost like a digital scrapbook. Sweet.

She also has a rad taste in video games. Dragon Age: Origins being in her top 5 games ever? Hell to the yeah! 🤙 That’s some good taste right there, man. She also listed Life Is Strange as one of her best games of the decade – a decision a wholeheartedly agree with. The adventures of Max and Chloe have a special little place in my heart.

Anyway, down to business. My gift to you, dear Anni, is your very own mini Spyro the Dragon. (Fire breathing not enabled). This way, he can keep the little one company – many even give him rides on his back – and I’m sure he’d been fast pals with your new furry friend! Enjoy your festive gift, friendo – and I hope that Spyro even manages to discover a few little hidden gems for you.

One of my favourite things about this particular blog is how personal she is. Her monthly blog updates are a delight to read – whether it’s reading about updates regarding her husband or her brand new puppy (aw, sooo cute), it adds a little flavour of personality to the digital landscape. I love blogs that get personal – that give us a peak at the blogger behind the keyboard, and The Parent Trope certainly does that!

But don’t just take my word for it! Head over to The Parent Trope and see for yourself! My personal faves are her list of best Game of Thrones parents and her initial thoughts on The Witcher 3.

Merry Christmas to Alli and her family, and to all of you Streamers out there! Blessed be, spread love and light, and always be kind. ✨

On a personal note – I’ve neglected this blog over December. It’s not been the best month for me, with life and work getting in the way, but doing this Secret Santa Blogmas post has really sparked up my love for crafting with words – so I’m gonna aim to hit the ground running with this site in the New Year. I’ll see you all then!
