Melody Reyne’s new music video leaves us with ‘Wet Dreams’

Two parts R&B, one part soul. That’s the sick combo that Melody Reyne manages to create on her latest track ‘Wet Dreams’.

In the ‘Wet Dreams’ music video, Melody’s confident yet humble, soft yet strong. It’s a duality of her femininity and her sexuality that makes the video shine, without coming across as being crude. It’s a fine line to walk, and its one that Melody walks with ease.

Standing on a grassy hill, overlooking the surrounding town, Melody’s dressed in a bright yellow dress, matched with a grandiose faux-fur coat. With a splash of yellow eyeliner and a bright pink lip, she certainly looks the part. She performs with the confidence and grace of a star, and that’s exactly what she’ll become if she continues on her path.

In between the scenes of Melody singing about her sweetheart, she interjects shots of her with a man (who has the most glorious hair). Wrapped in a backdrop of nature, the two get close, subtly sexual, yet almost romantic, as if the two are long lost lovers.

My favourite part of the video is the choreography (though I’m always a sucker for a good dance troupe). On a beach surrounded by back up dancers, it’s like something straight out of a (albeit classier) Nicki Minaj video. The choreo is tight – Melody is a natural born dancer – and really adds to the sound of the track. This isn’t choreography just for choreography’s sake. It’s something that adds to the overall narrative of the video; Melody owning herself and feeling her oats.

The music video ends with a suggestive undoing of a zipper, leaving the rest of the story up to the viewer’s imagination… but I’m sure we can all guess what happens next.

On the track itself, Melody’s voice is mesmerising. It perfectly suits the type of music she’s trying to create, matching the overall vibe of the song. It seems that the name ‘Melody’ is very apt for her indeed.

The production on the track is stellar, too. With heavy, Afro-beats opening the track and setting the tone, it catches your attention from the very first note. The uptempo vibe is one that suits the video perfectly. The track and the video compliment each other well, going hand in hand.

The track’s a cute little bop, something light and easy – the ideal song to add to your pre-party playlist. The video amplifies Melody’s skills, throwing her into the spotlight as a strong woman who’s gonna go and get whatever she wants. And I’m here for that vibe.

Sometimes, singers just have ‘it‘, whatever ‘it‘ may be. And Melody is one of those people. ‘Wet Dreams’ is simply another step on her inevitable journey to stardom.
